The 15-Minute One-Pager That Closed a Leadership Council Gift

It was the end of the day. You know the moment—your brain is already halfway out the door, your to-do list is still too long, and then your boss walks in with one more thing.
“Can you put together a one-page overview for the Leadership Council? We need to send it to a prospective donor.”
No runway. No draft. No time to overthink it.
Just: make it happen.
The Old Way vs. The Moment You Decide to Move Faster
In the past, this would have easily turned into a 2–3 hour project:
Dig up past materials
Rework old language
Over-edit every sentence
Second-guess positioning
And still end up with something that felt… fine.
But not sharp. Not compelling. Not gift-closing.
That day, I did something different.
Step 1: Start with What You Know
I pulled together the essentials:
Minimum annual giving level
Expectations for members
Role and positioning (stepping stone to board service)
Participation requirements (events, engagement, visibility)
No perfection. Just the facts.
Step 2: Let AI Do the Heavy Lifting
I dropped the information into ChatGPT with a simple prompt:
“Create a professional one-page overview for a Leadership Council with this information…”
Within minutes, I had a clean, structured first draft.
Not final. But strong.
Step 3: Apply Fundraiser Judgment
This is the part people miss.
AI didn’t close the gift—I did.
I refined:
The tone (less generic, more donor-centered)
The positioning (aspirational, not transactional)
The flow (clear, confident)
The layout (scannable, easy to find pertinent sections)
I made it sound like something a leader would want to be part of—not something they were being asked to join.
Step 4: Get It Out the Door
I sent it to the Executive Director.
Two minor edits.
That’s it.
Within 15 minutes, the one-pager was finalized and sent to the donor.
What Happened Next
He joined the Leadership Council the next day.
No weeks of back-and-forth.
No over-engineering the ask.
No delay.
Just clarity, speed, and strong positioning.
The Real Lesson
This isn’t about AI replacing fundraisers.
It’s about removing friction.
When you eliminate the time it takes to get from idea → draft → usable asset, you:
Move faster
Respond in real time
Capture donor momentum
And momentum is everything in major gifts.
If You’re Still Overbuilding Simple Assets…
Ask yourself:
Are you spending too much time creating internal documents that donors barely read?
Are you delaying outreach because materials “aren’t ready yet”?
Are you missing opportunities because you’re trying to make everything perfect?
Sometimes the difference between a missed opportunity and a closed gift is 15 minutes and a clear one-pager.
Final Thought
Your expertise is the organization, in strategy, relationships, and knowing how to position the opportunity.
Let tools handle the first draft.
You handle what actually closes the gift.
